LaKeith Stanfield’s naturally relaxed nature belies his intensely impressive acting abilities. The San Bernardino, California native can hardly believe his own star power, despite sweeping away audiences since his breakout role in FX’s Atlanta, with Jordan Peele’s film Get Out, and his latest, Judas and the Black Messiah, in which he plays FBI informant William O’Neal. But he knew he’d officially made it in Hollywood while attending the Independent Spirit Awards in 2013, where he was up for a Best Actor award for Short Term 12. “I was sitting at a table, and at a table right over from me was Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie. And I was just like damn, okay. I didn’t expect to be here this quickly.” In his Screen Tests with Lynn Hirschberg interview, Stanfield discusses crying while watching The Lion King, throwing up after his first kiss, and becoming a meme.
